I first read this book when I was about 15 and this was my first reread of it. I'm so glad I returned to this book because it's now one of my favourite Gemmell books. I don't think that I realised how impactful this book was the first time I read it, but I really do now. The whole book consistently builds up to a tear-jerking finale (okay, I was sobbing), and it's so beautifully done with every character arc and story tying together perfectly. Also Jaim Grymauch; his character and everything he stands for is so beautifully written. I'll definitely be rereading this again.

How is it that a book I have read so many times still has the power to make me cry?

This one was less epic than the others. It started much slower, but then got very good. It felt like a more traditional narrative than the sprawling and complex story we loved from the first two books, but it was still great. I hated the time jump, way too much. Made it feel like it was not connected. But it also seems to have set up the next installment as a more traditional sequel. I hope it surprises me, but I’m down either way.

Reading this made me want to be better, a better writer, a better daughter, a better person.
And it did things to my heart, sad wonderful things.

I can't see anything else one could ask of a book, but if there is , I assure you this book will have it, Because this, like many of Gemmell's works, is one of the ones. The books that remind you why you started reading in the first place. The books that remind you why you should never stop.

Whilst the writing certainly isn't the finest you'll ever see, the characters are definitely up there with the best. School teacher Alterith Shaddler, who transforms himself from petty minded pedant into a crusader for the people, is an unlikely but utterly convincing hero. In a book packed to the rafters with musclebound warriors, his attempts to fight the system with intelligence and knowledge make a refreshing change.

Adjoa Andoh excellent.

Always a sucker for Mr Gemmell and his tearjerker episodes!

Must leave a gap before, finishing the series.

This book is the third in the series of Rigante novels, but I read it without reading the first two. It was not an issue, as the first two books take place 800 years before this one. The sequel "Stormrider", however, is a direct sequel, so know that not all the action is tied up in the conclusion of "Ravenheart".

This is the third novel of Gemmell's that I have read (after "Dark Moon" and "Legend"), and he is quickly becoming my new favorite fantasy author.
