in all seriousness this has to be the most thrilling piece of fiction I’ve ever read in my short life. the Catholic Church will never not be the perfect aesthetic backdrop for some juicy drama.

I remember being swept away by this book when I first read it, a long, long time ago. Now, I see flaws, I see that the writing style leaves a lot of room for improvement, but despite that, I really enjoyed rereading this book, even though I knew where I was going. Even though the the whole science-religion thing seemed overdone, the speeches seemed overdramatic and there were some unnecessary details that were pointed out at weird moments, the story was enough to take me away into this world, and make me enjoy it immensely.
