All I really have to say about this book is meh. I will take away a layman’s knowledge of Bernini’s works and how to say “son of a bitch” in Italian. I would probably recommend this book to white men who think they know everything. They probably would find nothing wrong with it. Overall thoughts: I’d like to visit Rome someday.

Well written and cohesive, with very different characters and plot twists till the end. I enjoyed it, though it isn’t something I’d pick up again, mostly because it’s just not something that interests me. I’m just not the target audience.
With how long it is though,it’s hard to believe the whole book took place over less than 24 hours, much less that most of it took place over about 6 of those hours.

DNF. idk, I was pretty excited to read it and other people told me they really remembered liking this book but I got so turned off by the constant racist portrayal of the sexually deviant stereotypic Arab antagonist, and then the entire climax is just the threat of sexual assault against the female supporting character acting as a motivator for the male protagonist. The plan was to read The DaVinci Code after this but I think I'll just look up a synopsis on youtube, really not enticed to read Dan Brown again. I was really interested by the theorization of religion as a social institution and I loved all the info about the Roman architecture and the rituals of the Vatican but it wasn't enough to keep me going with this one

honestly so much better than the da vinci code, there were some pitfalls but those were more me being nit picky than actual flaws. also i like vittoria and robert SOOOOOO much more than sophie like oh my god so much more chemistry and i actually wanted them together by the end !!
