How is this book 5 stars? It’s so far out of my typical read I’m astonished.

The characters are amazing, and Louis L’Amour is an amazingly descriptive writer. The atmosphere and characters are portrayed in such detail that I’m almost convinced they are real people. I told my husband I would read this book for him (it’s his favorite and he asked me a bunch of times to read it) and although it was rough at the start it turned out to be an amazing read.

I was watching stranger things season 4 and the boring Russian prison scenes reminded me of this exciting book from my childhood. VERY politically incorrect. A fun survival story but I don't like the ending. I found it both anticlimactic and overly dramatic and the same time.

"Foolish? Of course, but so many things worth doing may seem foolish to others, may seem impossible."

Reading Last of the Breed was like
watching a film without a score or soundtrack. There were many, many words, but zero feeling, emotion, or what makes human stories human.

Sure it's pulp. Yet buckle in for a page turner. I've read this book 5+ times in the past 20 years and love it every time. No it won't make you smarter but it beats even more mindless movies and sitcoms. Classic adventure novel.

My first book by L'Amour. I expect I'll read a few more in the future - this was pretty good. Full of suspense and intrigue.
