Reading this before reading Pride and Prejudice is probably sacrilegious, so I apologize in advance. Anyway, this was a cute read with well-developed characters (main and side), though I felt Darcy's pride was less obvious than Lizzy's prejudice -- Lizzy seemed to enough of both P & P for the two of them.

There's a reason Austen is still read and enjoyed two hundred years after her death. Her wit, her characterization, her stories... Her works are exciting and lovable and insightful in all the best ways. Attempting an Austen retelling against that love and support is intimidating. You need to balance including the characters and situations that fans love and adore with a twist that brings something fresh to the story and makes the adaptation worth reading in its own right. As a lifelong devotee of Austen, I have high expectations for a retelling. Did the authors keep the characters true to their namesakes? Are the modernizations true to the spirit of the original? Is there enough different that the adaptation is justified (or is this a glorified money grab)?

In this Pride and Prejudice retelling, Bellezza and Harding definitely hit the mark. Even though I knew was was going to happen, I loved watching the story unfold. The tension was great and I enjoyed the characters grow through the drama. The deviations from the original make sense and feel well grounded in the new parameters. A fun read that I will recommend to the other Austen lovers in my circle.

Many thanks to Gallery Books for providing an advanced reader copy for review.

A note on my reading experience: a summer cold swept through my house this week and claimed me as its latest victim. Picked up this book to fill the day and basically devoured it in one sitting. While I don't recommend the germ infestation, I do recommend reading this all in one go. What a delightful way to spend the morning.

I really enjoyed this modern interpretation of Pride and Prejudice! A quick and pleasant read! My only critique is in the beginning Will didn’t feel like a fully fleshed out character, maybe just lacking details. But overall I would recommend Elizabeth of East Hampton and book one Emma of 83rd Street

i really loved this duo's Emma, and couldn't wait for this one! it was absolutely delightful and wonderful and i adored every minute. i liked the small changes they made from the original, i liked the modern differences. it didn't grab me by the heart and demand my undivided attention like Emma, and that's not terribly fair since i went into Emma with no expectations but went into this one with high expectations. Anyway. I did love it, and can't wait for more from these authors.

There were a few cringey moments (the leggings), but overall, it was cute. I think I preferred the first one, so I was a little disappointed having been really excited for this to come out. Def still worth the read (anything P&P adjacent is, really).

I’m always up for a good modern Jane Austen adaptation! It was fun having this set in the Hamptons and the little changes that the authors made, particularly with one character’s arc throughout the story.

Elizabeth and Will fulfilled their roles perfectly as the classic Austen duo, and I hope we get a third novel with Freddie.

Thanks as always to NetGalley for the ARC.
