One of the better Pride & Prejudice retellings that I've read in recent memory.

This one didn't start out well for me. I can't remember what it was exactly, but I didn't really like anyone - especially Lizzy. But it really grew on me over time. And by the end, I loved it. I'd still say the beginning was rough. But I liked how it progressed and ended.
A few things that stuck out to me at the beginning were things that made me feel like the authors really didn't have a grasp on Jane Austen's original characters. Like making changes in a retelling is fine - Mary was very different in this book, and so was Lydia. And I actually enjoyed that a lot!
But for some reason, Jane was a closet nerd - like into Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who.... and that didn't sit well with me. Maybe that was just me, but it just felt really off for Jane. I felt like if that role belonged to anyone, it would have been Lizzy. And I don't like the idea of putting Jane in a box either! I like the idea of branching out for her personality. But it just felt so off. Maybe it was how it was written? Or maybe it just didn't work for me.
Otherwise, though, ultimately, I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would based on how it started. But I truly loved it by the end.

If you are a fan of Jane Austen, its always a pleasure to see how other authors interpret her stories and that is no exception here. However, while this was a perfectly fine read I found myself slightly bored almost the whole time. It just never connected for me. However, the rest of my IRL book group really loved this so I think your mileage may vary!

she’s gone and done it again! it’s been so long since a romance book has had that “oomf” that makes a romance book good, but this one was bursting at the seems with it…
i would also like to preface, that aside from seeing the keira knightley film, i don’t really know much else about pride and prejudice. this means that i can’t speak on whether or not these accurate portrayals of the characters and a good adaption of the original storyline…
however! it was so good! i loved most of the characters (i found some annoying, but it felt like it was meant to be that way so i just rolled with it). and the romance and chemistry was really !!! for me, ya know! like there were multiple moments where i just had to take a breather and just be happy that everything was happening!
all in all incredibly lovely!

A Pride and Prejudice retelling where Lizzy wants to get her masters to be a journalist, her mom’s running and MLM, and Will is in business.
