War is Boring...and so is this book. Sorry, low blow. It just seemed that for as drawn to these conflicts (Chad, Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon, among others) as he was, even as a war correspondent, there wasn't a compelling argument as to why. I guess I expected more of an psychological exploration and instead was caught reading about an angsty late 20-something who feels more at ease in these war-torn countries than he does at home. So what?
The good:
- Nice art
- It was not hard to keep track of who was saying what
The bad:
- The story to me felt very vapid?. The guy seems to me like a reckless thrill seeker.
It also pissed me off how he went on and on about how tiring it was that people would tell him that they love their countries, only to ask him later for help to get out. Breaking news: you can love your country and still wish to live in a safe place

I liked it, but it was too short. Maybe his longer non-fiction will be better?
sad
slow-paced
war is boring, and so is this book. oh no poor guy who chose to travel to war torn countries just to get an adrenaline or dopamine hit and a quick buck. lots of tell, not enough show despite being a graphic novel.
Whining his way through the war zones... The equivalent of an essay on not knowing what to write and essay on. And the point is....
dark
reflective
sad
fast-paced
This book is also a bit boring. Premise is that the author is so bored with his life that he must go into war zones overseas to cover the terrible atrocities happening to get a jolt of excitement in his life, but even that becomes boring eventually. So war is boring but middle class America is stifling.
