I can only describe this book as a wild ride.
Read exactly like a YAF novel, but with darker themes. The deletions (murders) were honestly clever and fascinating. Such creativity. But also felt a little disjointed as the transition from school to real world occurred.

A university whose main goal is to teach you how to kill someone and get away with it.

This was definitely an interesting read. It basically chronicles three students at McMasters, a place to learn how to murder someone. But it can’t just be a random murder. They have to have a specific someone. They have to follow certain rules. And they have to present their thesis before they can complete their final.

Cliff wants to kill his former boss. He fired him after Cliff discovered a fatal flaw in their airplane design. Gemma wants to kill her boss because she is blackmailing her. And Doris, a famous film star, wants to kill the head of her studio because he’s ruining her career because she won’t sleep with him.

The book is very interesting. We get Cliff’s POV all from a diary he is required to keep for his sponsor (who is paying for his education). We also get little tidbits from the head of the university as well. The most interesting part I thought was watching the murders unfold.

I gave this a 3.75.

There’s no reason it needed to be so flowery. Could’ve shaved off many pages and a lot of unnecessary over explaining by just getting to the point. That said, I liked these characters and enjoyed the premise

It was a very slow start for me. But I do admit I enjoyed the ending.

The concept is absolutely what drew me in and kept me motivated to finish. While I appreciated the dry humor, there still wasn’t enough to keep me engaged. The middle 80% of the book was drawn out and I felt like I was trudging through blocks of text to reach the end. The beginning and end were a 4 star, but the middle was a solid 3. Good, but not great.
