A heart-felt exploration of what it means to share your toys.

Elephant and Piggie are terrific. They are individuals and friends. And the art captures their feelings for each other so well. The text is lame. And the text bubbles are awful. The combination makes for a mixed bag. Again there is a version of this book I would like a lot more. But even as it is, this one works. A mistake is made with very low consequence allowing a lesson to be learned relatively cheaply. Again the squirrel gets to play a fun walk on role. 3.5 of 5.

Mo Willems' books are highly readable, funny, and always perfect for read alouds. His collection of Elephant and Piggie early readers are hilarious yet endearing, and teaches the value of friendship.

This book would be a fun way to practice reading with intonation with older kids. The language is super simple, so it wouldn't be difficult for them to read.

No laugh out loud moments with this Mo Willems, which we've come to enjoy. This would be a good book if Nicholas was actually reading himself, which is probably what this book was intended for, an early reader. We'll come back to piggie and elephant.

The kids weren't as into this one, and I admit I wasn't either. "You broke my toy!" Oh hey, it turns out the toy is meant to break and break again. Yikes! I don't know if I want my kids to think that all toys are like that.

(They treat toys like that anyways, but still.)

This year's Cybil winner for best easy reader. The Cybils are awards given out by children and YA literature bloggers. I love pretty much all of the Elephant and Piggie books, so I was happy with this choice.
