I was one book short of my reading goal for the year, and with less than 24 hours to go, my Mom suggested I read one of Patterson’s “bookshots” to get me across the finish line. I literally sat at the table and read it in one go which was great since it was a nice easy read. Read it with a tea and some cookies in my bath robe on the last day of 2023. Certainly worse ways to start my morning.

Another great story. I really like the partnership of Luc and Katherine.

Not much mystery for a mystery novel. The first person you really suspect is the one who did it, and then the last good chunk has nothing to do with the real mystery. The detective is constantly mourning his dead wife but claims he "easily slip into flirting" with random women?? Psh

This story was short like it is suggested in the front cover. I really didn't like it much, there were no suspense an I never thought of who has done it? The mystery was to plain no excitement whatsoever. The writing was like something I will write myself hopefully much exciting though even in first point of view like it was. The characters weren't to engaging did not make me like them or the story. The story or the "who done it?" does happen before the holidays so it is not base much in Christmas it happen from thanksgiving day to going to Christmas. Which it wasn't my cup of tea. I wanted it to be through Christmas Eve and Christmas. But we get a little kind of twist a sad one to be exact. Which it has to do with the main character it was sad and it was clearly meant to set the mood down. I kinda like that part for some reason because not everything good happens in life and it makes it more realistic to me. The hint of romance that yet was there in a way but not really, was actually intriguing which make me put .5 more to my rating. Not well meant to be a Christmas type of story, the mystery was bland, no romances which make me like it, but a hint of romance but in reality it's a good friendship. Not the best Christmas story for folks that want to read something to do with the Christmas spirit though. Confusing story, like my comment... I will say...!

This entry in the aptly titled Bookshots series proved to be more episodic than I anticipated from such a short, novella length book. Overall proved a decent morsel for my traditional binge on Holiday themed crime fiction at the end of the year.

I love to make fun of James Patterson, but felt guilty because I really shouldn’t mock an author who’s work I’ve never actually read.

Now I can make fun of Jimmy with a clear conscious

Pretty good little detective story. I enjoyed getting to know the 2 detectives. The extra storyline at the end was a fun side trip to Paris.

Not sure how this was considered a Christmas mystery….not my favorite book shot. Wasn’t a big fan of the main two characters.
