3.5 rounded up. Overall, you have the classic Renaissance man shenanigans which I love in the series. However, I thought that the plot did get rather absurd. Looking forward to the next book in the series which will complete the brotherhood arc.

I've missed Detective D'Agosta & Agent Pendergast. It's been awhile since I've read in this series and I'm glad I'm back!! Lots of twists and turns.

Oh, I don't know. The first time through the series, this and [b:Brimstone|136637|Brimstone (Pendergast, #5; Diogenes, #1)|Douglas Preston|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1369943498l/136637._SY75_.jpg|1369951] were neck and neck in terms of my least favorite books so far, but Brimstone at least has a comprehensive lack of Smithback in it. This just feels so rushed, like it's part of a larger story -- which it is -- but the push in this case makes the story feel like all set-up, no payoff.
