I listened to the audio book version. The stories of the the princesses were interesting but I would have been better served by reading the book to gain a better sense of structure. The premise of the book is that to help our daughters not be influenced by princesses here are some tales of real princesses. However, most of them are not stories suitable for children, although I found them interesting.

My favorite story was that of New Martyr St. Yelizaveta Fyodorovna, who was martyred by the Russian revolutionaries, and had an extraordinary life of faith. So while she didn't have a fairy-tale ending, certainly wasn't a princess behaving badly.

I borrowed the audio book from Pima Community Library.

There are better options out there with a wider variety of princesses (or women in general) and better editors. I honestly cannot believe how many mistakes made it into a finished book.

Really well written. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I don't usually like history but the author makes it easy to like with her sense of humour and by keeping it short. Its easy to pick up the book, flip to a woman's story and read it. I didn't feel obligated to finish it all in one sitting and I will definitely go back and read it again whenever I want something quick. I also think it should be turned into a podcast.

The book was highly interesting and informative. The only downside was that the stories were short. Before you could dive in, the end of the chapter was already close.

Meh - this book was a bit disappointing. It's a collection of "real" stories about various women (few princesses) throughout history. It seems as if they picked the title first and then forced everything to fit that title.

The historical sources listed in the back are iffy. Some are legit, but many are blogs and clickbaity news sites.

I also didn't care for the writing style. It was too casual and trying too hard to be hip. A humorous writing style could have worked here, but it didn't in this case. It just came off as insincere. Like the author gave zero fricks.

It could be a good starting point. A place to begin your own research into these women. So there's that.

Very interesting in the range of women it talked about but just a bit too casual and nonchalant at times.

there were interesting bits here and there, but there was too much focus on Europe and russia for whatever reason. while some other parts of the world were also featured, it's still rather europe-heavy. some accounts are very questionable, and calling Olga or her husband russian is unforgivable.

While a great idea for a book full of interesting stories, several contradicted the writer's reasoning for writing the book. At the beginning the writer claims to want to show the not so great realities of Princesses that Disney movies do not show. Yet the writer starts off the book with a princess who was quite possibly a myth- as she admits at the end of that chapter. Then she fills pages with modern day princesses but brushes over historical ones that would better match the point the writer intended for the book. The book also had many kinda sorta princesses but not exactly real ones, such as "American Princesses" or Lucrezia Borgias who was not a princess, but the Pope's daughter... not a princess.
While it was an enjoyable book, I think it needed more focus on its original reason for being written.
