Second adventure of Perveen Mistry, one of the first female lawyers in 1920s India.Because of the discretion she used in her first case, Perveen was selected by the British ruling government to travel to Satapur to investigate and negotiate between a dowager maharini and her daughter -in-law as to the education of the 10 year old maharajah. Once she arrives, she becomes worried for the safety of the young maharajah whose older brother recently died in a hunting accident. Fabulous details of a style of life so different from my own. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed The Widows of Malabar Hill and was looking forward to this book in the series.  It was nowhere near as good as the first book. The pace was too slow to hold my interest.  The protagonist was not likable & I felt she was elitist, superior in her behavior & nowhere near as humble as she tried to appear.

Second book in yet another "plucky young woman in patriarchal times solves murders" series. I liked this fine, it's got some interesting plot building leading to the next book and the twist is unexpected enough! A fine easy palate cleanser book.

I love Perveen Mistry - she's an excellent sleuth and the setting of 1920s India is fascinating.

Not as great as Widows of Malabar Hill, but Perveen is still a strong protagonist. This felt a bit watered down as compared to Widows.

I love Perveen and the descriptions of 1920s India. I recently read the Salaryman's Wife and felt this story was a little too similar.
