There are some great lines in this version of the story which made it fun to read. The Beast is an interesting character who starts out very accommodating but still has some clear communication issues and, through a modern lens, comes across as very much like a "Nice Guy" the way he handles (perceived) rejection. Truly, Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont's Beast makes for an interesting character study.
