Well, that was... well it certainly was a book. Towards the end, I started to understand why this was getting all the hype. By the end I mean like literally the last two chapters. I just don't think this is my thing. I can read dark romances and be okay with horrible main characters, but bro was creeping me out. I think I just hated the MMC. Still consuming what the hell I just read, will I be reading book two? Duh. But a bit speechless and conflicted on how I'm feeling right now...

i didn’t know what to expect going into this book but oh my goddd i loved it. i do wish there was more focus on the trauma that mara experienced, hence my rating of the book. i adore sophie lark’s work and i will never pass up an opportunity to read something written by her. i’m starting the next book in the duet asap!

This book is dark and I was surprised that it didn’t include a trigger warning page. With that said it was a fun dark romance and I did find the characters likable. This is definitely a morally grey love interest.

i understand it, not having a ton of plot, considering that it is in a duet series, but it felt very slow and like not a lot happened. i didn’t necessarily dislike it, and i know that the cliffhanger is going to keep me reading until i’ve finished the series, but, there was something missing.

The book would've been a lot more riveting if the conflict and main point of plot wasn't so simple and somewhat bland. It definitely feels a lot more like a character study of a serial killer and his muse (much like "You", but without the intellectual charm). I found aspects to be really enjoyable and then found myself like "WTF did I just read", but not in a great way? I think the backstory of the FMC was a lot to unwind, and I enjoyed seeing her overcome some of it, but in the sexual manner that she did made some of it feel incredibly icky to me sometimes. I wish there had been more explanation of the MMC's nature than we were given.
