It goes slow most of the way, then accelerates as it progresses.

This book was not as good as everyone else seems to think it is.

I'm a fan of Heaberlin's books, despite having never been to Texas other than an airport. If you're a mystery fan who enjoys a powerful, thoughtfully written thriller with compelling characters, you would like this book. I borrowed from the library and really "enjoyed" it. I'm not a science-y person, and some things were a little lost on me, but the basic premise was interesting.

Vivvy Bouchet is an astrophysicist, and she has psychic abilities like her mother, who just passed. As a child, Vivvy and her sister Brig found evidence of a missing person in the house they lived in, leading to a body and they ran from VA to Texas, where Vivvy had a premonition about a boy being hurt by a Blue Horse. She saves Mike from a Blue Mustang, who in the future becomes her brother in law. Mike is a cop in Ft Worth, Texas. Mike and his partner Jesse Sharp want Vivvy's psychic skills to find the truth behind Lizzie Solomon's disappearance about 10-11 years ago. Vivvy's spidey sense tells her Lizzie is alive. When a conspiracy theorist w a popular podcast targets her, she ends up doing his show as a guest and meets Bubba's assistant Joie.

Then it gets more dangerous as the truth becomes a little sharper. It's hard to know whom to trust. I was fascinated by Vivvy's grit and strength. Really dark look at human nature. But nothing that will give me nightmares. 4.5 /5☆

A big thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook. I wish I could say I enjoyed it, and am eagerly awaiting the upcoming TV series based on it, but no. [b:Night Will Find You|61884843|Night Will Find You|Julia Heaberlin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1675082747l/61884843._SY75_.jpg|93828921] really grated and it was a true push to finish.

I wish I'd remembered that I'm not a fan of Karissa Vacker's narration. She reads every woman like she's impatient, gritty, and trying too hard to be badass. I get exhausted listening to how intense her women come across. I am ALL FOR for independent, smart and direct women, being one myself, but her voice portrays these women as unlikeable and intolerant.

But honestly, all the characters in this novel are unlikeable, regardless of the narration. I couldn't find one person I could really latch onto and care about. Kind of wishing there had been a dog. I bet I would've liked the dog.

The story was roundabout with regard to the child murders/abductions and too focused on being inside psychic/astrophysicist Vivvy Bouchet's head, always on who she's battling with today. She was so overstrung, so hyped up and tense, it was impossible to get past her volatility to settle into the story.

Overall, this was not the audiobook for me. You might like it, as I can see many people have, but perhaps you should try the ebook, and pass on the audio. Either way, be prepared to meet a bunch of characters, especially the protagonist, you'd like to slap in the face.

All the stars! Every time I read a Julia Heaberlin book I think she could not possibly top herself, and then she does. Unforgettable characters that leap off the page? Check. Twisty suspense that keeps you guessing and makes it extremely difficult to put down the book? Check. Beautiful, smart, and thought-provoking writing? Check! Read this ASAP, and then go read the rest of her books.

Julia Heaberlin delivers her beautiful prose and storytelling again! She always does such a great job of examining how it feels to be human in many different settings, but still relatable. And of course her thriller plots are always great! Loved the ocd and misophonia representation without relying on stereotypes. She manages to write genuinely creepy thrillers in an oversaturated market, while maintaining an artistic style.

I liked her writing style and the story kept me hooked, but the climax wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped. The bit at the end seemed unnecessary.

I wasn't sure that this would be my cup of tea but kept going when I realized the central character lived near Big Bend, one of the most gorgeous places on Earth.
