This had so much potential but GOD did I drown in sailing jargon and a sheer lack of adventure. There were so many points throughout this book in which I went, “Ah yes, now it’s getting good!” but then two or so pages later, I felt bored to absolute rages of tears.
I so dearly wanted to like this book, what with my love of classics and my love of pirate history combined into one novel.
But alas! it was not to be.

Fun and suspenseful. Great descriptions and use of imagery. I was able to picture things quite vividly. There were maybe too many characters to keep track of, especially since they were all introduced so fast at the beginning. Some characters even made such a brief appearance before dying, and it was a little confusing. Sometimes it was hard to follow what was going on, because I didn’t know the vocabulary of sea equipment mentioned. The ending was different to how I expected, and I like how Long John Silver’s character is portrayed. It really got into the spirit of a pirate adventure novel, with a grey area of morality and exciting moments of betrayal, capture, and attack. There was a bit of racism in the last few pages of the text, but that was probably just a product of its time. Overall, it was worth a read, however I won’t rush to get back to it at all. I don’t feel I need to strongly recommend it to others. If it wasn’t so violent, perhaps I’d read it to my kids one day.

I read this when I was a lot younger... it wasn't as good as I remember it being :-(

Read for Book Club. Was long, drawn out and unenjoyable to me. There were so many parts I really can't explain what happened...I don't know because I got lost in the verbiage.

3.5 ish? Something like that?
Why does Jim do anything he does? Do we know? Do we just roll with it? Apparently.
That black sails sentimentality will only carry you so far and this book lost me a bit during the middle part, but I’m glad to have read it.
Bonus points for the snuff box filled with parmesan.

I'll admit I'm 29 years old and this is the first time I've actually read the book. Why you may ask... I don't know.. I've never been a good reader until these past couple of years.
I decided i needed to read some classics.. things i should have read years ago
and i wasn't disappointed one bit.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading about Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver and their hunt for treasure.
I don't think there's much need for me to go into detail about the plot but i will say if you've not read this yet you definitely should
