This is definitely an autobiography, not a memoir - it's not super cohesive and the pacing feels strange sometimes. But Cleve Jones is an eyewitness to some of the most important events in American queer history, and reading about his experiences was so cool.
One throughline I thought was interesting was the ways queer people fought each other, to the detriment of our political cause. He mentions misinformation and denial that spread around AIDS, and gay men and lesbians fighting over feminism, and transphobic cis lesbians wanting nothing to do with trans women - he even asserts that major queer rights groups like the HRC weren't interested in fighting Prop 8 or DOMA initially, thinking that going through the courts was a losing strategy. Hopefully we're learning from our past!
