I LOVE this series. The world building us phenomenal: the three species, the pack family and the concept of Silence/PsyNet.
As for this so series, I didn't really like Vaughn so much or Faith. I was more curious about Anthony, knowing that someone is looking to shake things up from the inside is great! I found Kaleb even more interesting, though we only got a teensy taste.
I am glad I found this series; can't wait to see what's next! Well, I do know who's next: that Psy

Having heard that this book was too much like the first one in this series, I was expecting a letdown. I can happily say that I definitely *don't* agree with whomever made that assessment!
Of course, there are some similarities. The first in this series - Slave to Sensation - was about a female Psy overcoming her lifelong Silence conditioning to learn how to feel again, helped and encouraged by her attraction to a Changeling leopard.
Visions of Heat also chronicles the struggle of a female Psy to overcome her conditioning and learn to love a Changeling, this time Jaguar. But other than that, it is quite different.
Faith, the heroine in Visions of Heat, starts off in a much more difficult place than Sascha did in Slave to Sensation. She has been isolated all of her life, is constantly monitored by others, and her talent hasn't given been giving her flashes of emotion all her life. She is basically fully Silenced. But her talent is manifesting some new twists - very uncomfortable ones - and she needs to find a way to manage them without causing her monitors to clamp down even tighter.
So, she sneaks out to see if Sascha can help her. Sascha does, but mostly, it's Vaughn, the Jaguar that intercepts her in Changeling lands and immediately begins challenging her conditioning with constant touching.
At first she is afraid that all this touch and emotion Vaughn is exposing her to will damage her, cause her to shut down entirely, especially on top of the stresses her foresight talent has recently been giving her. But Vaughn lets instinct guide him and quickly learns when to push and when to give her some space.
Eventually she is able to throw off her conditioning enough to be with Vaughn. Vaughn is a quintessential alpha hero - strong, possessive, challenging and just a little bad. Any woman would be thrilled to have all that intensity focused on her, and Faith isn't stupid. She figures out that it's worth the trouble.
These characters have to work pretty hard to get to their happy ending and with Faith's unique talent, there is no guarantee of forever. But I found this story very satisfying, while still leaving me curious about the next installment.
This author has created an incredibly detailed world for this series and introduces new, interesting ideas in each book. I'm very excited to see where it goes - not just with the main characters of each romance, but with the overarching concepts she is explaining as she goes along. I can only wish I had an imagination like hers!
If you enjoy something different, something creative to go along with the emotional ups and downs of the hero and heroine, pick up the Psy-Changling series. If you're like me, you'll be thrilled you did.

I'm continuing to just enjoy and gobble up this series. I liked this one more than book 1, even though Faith (h) dragged out her final decision a bit too long (even though it was obvious what she was going to decide). I liked Vaughn (H) a lot and that he was so in touch with his cat. Because of their connection, it also felt like he fell first and harder. I also appreciated that touch and steaminess had to come gradually and that there wasn't as much personal (even if they were platonic) touches between Vaughn and the rest of his pack like book 1 had. Although I didn't love that at times, Faith had to be touched even when she didn't want it, so that her conditioning could be overcome.
There was also some continued world building and hints at what's to come with the overarching plot. I really liked what's happening with the NetMind, I thought that was a cool concept. There were some similarities, as other reviewers have mentioned, to book 1, but I felt there were also enough differences to keep the book enjoyable. Written in third person, multi-POV (there were some scenes from Sascha's POV for example). No ow/om drama, h was a virgin and H was not (but limited history given and no serious relationships). I think I'm going to switch back to some of the novellas next before diving into book 3.

I didn't love this book. I didn't like all the nonconsensual touching in the first half or two thirds of the book, or how Vaughn knew what Faith needed better than she did.
I did still love the world and the story, but definitely nowhere near my favourite romance. I often had to reread passages, but that could have been because of some stressful circumstances in my life, but I don't usually have that problem with romance novels.
Content warning for murder, torture and dubious consent.

Second read it is just as good. The intrigue surrounding the Psy and Changelings is fascinating. I think I will be slowly making my way back through the series. Nalini makes the characters real and their emotions jump off the page.
Third read. Even better.

I have heard nothing but great things about Nalini Singh's novels. I was able to find an omnibus of her first five books in her Psy-changeling series a couple of weeks ago and was excited to read them. I read the first one and it was...ok. I thought that maybe it was just me because the world building was great and the idea of the whole thing seemed a fun read. I just walked away feeling it was pretty meh. I've now read the second, and I must say, I kind of feel the same about this one, which I am surprised about because Vaughn was an intriguing character. I was excited to read his story, to see behinf some of his mystery.
So now I'm at a crossroads. I have three days left and three books left to tead. I can read them, but am lacking the motivation.

I don't know if it was because I was listening to this book instead of reading it but it just didn't do it for me. I found myself getting bored and hoping that things would just wrap up and move along.

Vaughn's story. Vaughn finds himself drawn to farseer Faith. Faith thinks she is going insane after she realizes she had foreseen her sister's death. She seeks out Sascha as the only psy she knows of to survive out of the psynet and survive. Thus, the only one who won't turn her into the Council, or lie to her.

I realized after the first chapter that I'd already read this book before. However, I didn't let that stop me from reading it again. NS's characters are vibrant and interesting. This is a great book for anyone who likes paranormal romance. I love how Vaughn is just the right mix of sexy, aggressive shifter and understanding male. It was just as good of a read the second time around.
