Cheyenne is left by her group of friends, who are off on a cruise, to deal with her dying mother and her drug addicted sister. During this time she finds herself attracted to a man her friends consider not appropriate even though he stepped up to raise his brothers, after his mother committed suicide and his father was jailed, when he was only 18.

An amazing story of the bindings of family and love, and how who we are isn’t defined by those around us or by the expectations of others, but instead by who we are at our heart - access the full review at http://romanticreadsandsuch.wordpress.com/2012/11/20/when-snow-falls/

I absolutely loved this book. So much so that having started this book slightly after midnight I couldn't put the book down to go to sleep. I kept telling myself 'just one more page', but in the end I finished the book in one sitting.
Brenda has a knack of narrating the emotions to an extent that you really feel them. I felt for Chayenne and her hard life. I loved Dylan and his honestly and the way he stepped up to keep and protect his family.
They make a wonderful couple, both are strong people and have overcome a lot in their lives.
I can't wait to see who the others end up with.

Okay so I have mixed feelings about this book.
On the one hand, I PERSONALLY hated the love triangle aspect. I understand that it was to help with Cheyenne’s overall character growth, but I just don’t like love triangles in general—so Joe’s presence kind of pissed me off every time he showed up LMAO.
Also because of that, Dylan kinda of took his time showing up in this book. He literally showed up for the first time 9 chapters in. Damn.
But yeah. I liked how the romance between Dylan and Chey developed…
BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I feel like they didn’t get enough screen time as a pairing? Does that make sense?? I felt like this book was more like a women’s fiction than a romance book. The romance felt like a SUBGENRE here. The book focused more on Chey as a person than the romance between her and Dylan.

Unfortunately I did not like Chey for some reason. The back and forth between Joe and Dylan - complete opposites. Listen guys, dump the girl and see if sparks fly between the two of you instead, because her back and forth is tiresome!

this is pretty good. it's different from the other book that she has written. It's nice to know that she doesn't stick with one genre of romance.

I really enjoy Brenda Novak's books. That being said this has not been my favorite.
Chey and Dylan both come from not so great backgrounds. Chey's mom has taken her and her sister from city to city and all over looking for the next man the next drug etc. They finally settle in Whiskey Creek and while as a teenager Chey makes fast friends with the good crowd her sister becomes part of the bad crowd. They are both grown women now in Whiskey Creek and her mother is dying of cancer. Chey believes it may be her last chance to find out about the mysterious blonde woman she remembers. Her mother insists it's someone Chey made up... or did she.
Dylan's mom left when they were young and his dad ended up in jail. Dylan is taking care of himself and his brothers. Taking care of his brother has led him to jail a time or two. While he is now reformed he can't outrun the dangerous background he had. Will Chey be able to look past his bad boy ways and into his reformed bad/good boy image??
I do enjoy learning bits and pieces from everyone's families since I'm sure the characters will return in future books but I couldn't connect with Chey. I felt she was a little to childish for me in the beginning. While I know she was the main person in her family taking care of everyone she still seemed childish when things came to relationships. I will read the next book in the Whiskey Creek series...

When Snow Falls by Brenda Novak
ISBN: 9780778313717
Cheyenne Christensen never recalls it snowing in Whiskey Creek.
She recalls her mother Anita having cancer and she had to take care of the family herself, and tend to her moms' medicine.
The older daughter, Presley works at a casino. Least they are not begging on street corners or malls.
Eugene Crouch the PI had shown Presley pictures of Chey and her mother, why wasn't she in the picture also and why the different names?
Chey works at the B&B and they are trying to drum up business, maybe the murder of Mary Hatfield will be the trick.
Chey wasn't able to go on the cruise with her other girlfriends because she had no birth certificate and her mother wasn't sure where she was born...
Dylan is her first hookup at 31 years old. She really has a crush on Joe but her best girlfriend, Eve wants him for herself
She pesters her mom about where she was born, before she dies and she keeps saying Wyoming but Chey has checked all the towns to no avail. Her sister has kept her secret well...
Chey learns a lot more about Dylan when he loses a dart bet. he's got to answer 20 questions. She finally breaks down and tells him of her fears of her past.
Some unexplained things happen and Chey has decisions to make to move forward.
