I think my lower rating had to do just as much with my hyped-up misconception of the work as the fact that I found the whole thing rather...hokey. Knowing it was about a woman using theatre to liberate herself from an abusive marriage, I went in thinking "BLACK comedy" and instead I got a zany romp that had actual feeling on maybe 3 pages out of 52. I wanted blood and tears, and got puns and rednecks. File this under "its fault or mine?"

"Still premeditated" is in the back of my head all day now. Revenge comedy is an underrated genre, and I love Lauren Gunderson's work within it.

I mean there is a reason she is the most produced playwright in the US and she is quickly becoming my favorite.

I do wish Sweetheart and Nan had been a couple though.... Gunderson writes wonderful female friendships, but this time I wanted it to be gay.
