A great return after so long, though no furthering of plot, just foreshadowing. Third story is whoa with the meta, but also whoa with its implications by the end.

The last story was an ode to those old detective novels which I'd stopped reading years ago because I disliked having to strategise while reading for fun. However, the mystery was easy enough that I'd inadvertently discovered the answer rather early on. It was the details that tripped me up. Also, the solution to Tsuruya's third story left me cold. Based on how I remember Japanese being spoken, the answer did not compute for me. Perhaps, it's because of how my dialect of English is spoken. So I didn't catch whatever word play was supposed to be going on.

I adore these characters so my rating is quite a bit higher than it would be otherwise. The stories here are of the low-key character interaction style that I think is my preferred mode compared to the more bombastic tone of some of the other books. I especially liked the Tsuruya story for featuring her and piling on plenty of references and little meta comments and things that I find very fun but I'm sure plenty of people don't. It's also nice if you're looking for some introductions to different mystery authors. I enjoyed it!
