Lukach's writing is more descriptive than reflective, which isn't something I look for in a memoir. There is a lot of privilege that isn't ever acknowledged, and I'm not saying it has to be but it would have elevated this memoir to a new level if some of the writing went beyond writing about the experience itself. The reason I picked up this book was to get some wisdom on supporting someone in the psych ward, but I think I mostly got retriggered. Please take care if you're someone who's very affected by this topic.

This is a great book to read as a clinician, or someone with a loved one struggling with mental health. It is about Mark taking care of his wife while she is struggling with the ups and downs of her mental health. While also taking care of their children.

Definitely worth the read.

On the surface this book is a journey of one woman’s journey with mental health struggles, but really it is a book about patience and love.  I really enjoyed reading this honest account of the strain mental health disorders can put on relationships and families.  I commend Mark and Giulia for being able to share their story so openly and vulnerably and I think this book has the potential to touch many people.
