Part survival planning guide and part history book, what sells it is that its written seriously.

I had heard this book can get pretty boring-in some spots that was true-it definitely had an ebb and flow on interest and mind wandering. The good part was, since there's not a plot to follow, it didn't matter much when your mind wandered. The most interesting aspects of this book were when actual zombies were being discussed, like the beginning where it described how the infection worked, as well as the history of recorded zombie incidents throughout history at the end of the novel. Discussions on weapons use was fairly interesting, but talk of terrain, travel, and basic survival was fairly boring, especially parts that felt like they had very little to do with zombies. The attempts at humor also were not all that funny, imo. And although the mentioned histories at the end of the book were just about the most interesting part, they also felt extremely out of place in the book, having nothing to do with survival, except to possibly warn the public about how much governments will try/have been covering up zombie out breaks at all costs (and also possibly implying that governments infect on purpose for research purposes). Still, it felt like it should be a separate book, or like it was only included to spice this one up a bit-and the survival part was kind of just a gimmicky thing to get the book sold. Also, I don't feel as if I will retain a lot of the information I heard. :p And most of the tips seemed unreasonable or unlikely-because in the event of a zombie apocalypse I sort of doubt you'll be able to spend much time searching for the most suitable weapons and fortresses-you'll probably just have to use what you can can be quick on your feet-I don't think there will be a lot of choice and options involved. Still, after all that, this was a more interesting read than I expected it to be.

Wholly interesting and well thought out. Kept me up at night!

This was definitely not my type of book in the end. I like action, but the mass repetitiveness of this dang book had me reeling. I would rather have been eaten by a zombie than to read a cliche novel about (somewhere, on the earth) a mysterious plague is here. Woah! they're super grotesque and are feasting on human flesh?! I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT Max Brooks, that is just so original of you! >_> Really though. I didn't like it and kept picking it up, I even decided to listen to a good 2/4 of the book but no narrator can change my overall boredom and dissapointment in this book. I think this one falls under the category: the movie was better. (Still haven't seen it though...)

TZSG:RA consists of short stories that deal with outbreaks of the Solanum virus throughout history. It makes an excellent addition to Brooks' other zombie novels. It is a short read, but Roberson's art is astounding and reminded me of John Buscema's and Ernie Chan's artwork from the Savage Sword of Conan series of the 80's and 90's.

I recommend this to all zombie aficionados out there. Although it helps to have read TZSG beforehand so as to understand better the "rules" of Solanum, Recorded Attacks makes a good standalone read.
