A little slow to start, which made me take longer to finish it than I should have. The characters were hard to relate to and a bit annoying, but I guess you could say that's in the art of good writing! Overall I liked it and would recommend it.

I thought the ending was somewhat interesting and more action packed, but also full of predictable revelations. (Epilogue unnecessary.) I did not like a single character nor find them very believable.

Well I think the fact that it took me 3 weeks to finish this book says a lot about how I really feel about it.
The story starts off interesting enough, but I didn’t vibe with the writing style. I also didn’t enjoy the storyline. It just seemed so outlandish and rushed. I found my head spinning sometimes because I couldn’t quite keep up with all the twists and time jumps.
The story is told in two parts. During the first part Lily Macdonald is a newly wed lawyer who has been assigned the task of proving Joe Thomas’ innocence. Thomas was charged with the murder of his girlfriend, and he has new information that could help free him. Lily feels an instant connection with Joe, and it leads to all sorts of distractions for her as her relationship with her brand new husband suffers dramatically.
Lily and her husband, Ed, also take on the task of caring for their next door neighbor’s daughter, Carla, on the weekends. The parts that are told in Carla’s point-of-view are hard to connect with as she is a child in this portion of the story.
The second part of the book is told several years later. I don’t want to spoil too many of the “shocking moments” from the second part, but they are somewhat predictable. Carla is now an adult and has found Lily and Ed again after all these years. She tries to portray herself as the same innocent girl they knew years before, but they soon find she has some tricks up her sleeve.
I feel like there was just too much going on in this book. Too many elements made it seem too unbelievable, and I just didn’t find myself wanting to take the time to read it every day. Needless to say, I am glad I am through with it!

While this seemed like an interesting plot it seemed to drag forever. Almost too many twists to the point that I wanted to pull my hair if one more came along. Every single character was completely damaged but not to the point that it made them disturbingly endearing, just quite irritating.
I did like the insertion of a bit of a look into raising a child with Aspergers. Tho linked to the immediate story it still felt as if it was thrown in there half assed.

This book was very intriguing! It does have a lot to grasp and many turns so I would not suggest this as a light read. I could not put it down and it always had me guessing!

I liked this story. I have to say that there were parts that I found to drag on a little, but there were also twists and turns that I didn't expect. Definitely worth the read!

Lily and Ed's whirlwind romance led to a quick proposal, and now the two are navigating their lives together as newlyweds. Lily, a recently-accredited lawyer, has just bagged her first case, the emotionally-draining appeal of an autistic man sentenced to prison for the murder of his girlfriend years before. Ed, meanwhile, is cripplingly frustrated that his career as an artist hasn't taken off. The two find themselves getting involved with a young neighbor girl when her mother needs a babysitter, and the ever-changing relationships between the three over the next two decades form the basis of the book, especially after Carla moves away with her mother and returns as a young adult to wreck havoc on their lives. There is murder, betrayal, and feelings of debt and vindication throughout this book. It's definitely a twisted, dark psychological thriller that a lot of people could probably get sucked into pretty quickly, but to me, I just couldn't love it.
The plot felt like it dragged. A lot. There was a lot of bad energy. I didn't like the characters at all. I didn't buy into their decisions or actions. There were so many twists and so many different times I thought the book would end and it didn't that I just felt exhausted by the end of my read. It's a very intense read, and a lot of time and energy is devoted to the backstory of the book with very little covering the climax and conclusion.
If you can handle psychological thrillers with a LOT of intensity and bad blood and aren't turned off by a cast full of unlikable characters, this may be a worthy read. I didn't think it was bad, but it certainly wasn't my cup of tea.
