Rating
I’m giving The Cats of Ulthar 4/5 stars.
Genre
The Cats of Ulthar is a horror / fantasy short story by the pen of H. P. Lovecraft. This is also classed as a classic.
About the Book
The book is about how you can’t kill cats in a place called Ulthar. I’m assuming murdering of cats goes on.
Why did I choose this book to read?
I loved the cover of this book, and I saw it was a short story so I decided to hop in and read it whilst I had some spare time on my hands.
Pricing
£0.49 on the Kindle Store. I read an electronic text of it online.
What did I think of it?
I thought this was quite a good little short story. It was well paced and the ending was really well done. I didn’t think it would end quite like it did, a little dark and gory, but it was really well written. I heavily enjoyed this one.
Did I have any qualms with it?
No qualms came to mind when I was writing this review at all.
Would I recommend it and who to?
I’d recommend this to anyone who wants to get into H. P. Lovecraft, or anyone that likes a dark little short story.
Overall opinion
I thought this was well done. It didn’t completely blow me away, but luckily, I wasn’t expecting that to happen. It was a neat little short story, it didn’t scream at me and I probably won’t read it again, but it was well written, and well deserved to become a classic, in my opinion.

I have to be honest; the bulk of the Lovecraft works I've read that do not in some way involve some cosmic horror, leave a lot of be desired. Often too short to be impactful, and I think the rising standards of what is great, particularly in fantasy, mean that a lot of these works do not age so well when looked at through a modern lens. Regardless, this story is fine. I guess.

I liked this short story a lot. This story made me laugh because my wife is terrified of cats and the whole time I read it I was thinking of her.
