I seem to have fallen out of love with the B&TB story over the last couple of years but apparently, the nostalgia has somewhat stayed with me because I think of the three books I've read from this series so far, this is the one I've been the most invested in.

Though intended for a younger audience, I still took a lot of pleasure out of reading this twist on the traditional Disney movie. I mean, what’s not to love about Beauty and the Beast? But underlying this “familiar” tale are many themes that are present day issues. Living through a plague and quarantine, dealing with racism and bigotry. It all feels so...relevant. This story goes in a few delightfully unexpected places to twist our traditional understanding of the tale of Beauty and the Beast.

I really loved reading more about Maurice and the life before Belle. It was what kept me intrigued in the book when it was quoting scenes from the movie. Those weren’t my favorite scenes because I felt the author was being hidden behind the Disney movie and her writing style and story was so much MORE. About halfway through- it mostly stops quoting the moving and it gives a broader picture. You get to see personalities come forward and I enjoy the truly dark aspects that she added. The murder, the betrayal, and the burden left to the next generation is something I think makes this story stand apart from the movie. It also answers questions like the painting and why it isn’t of an 11 year old and why chip is still five years old.

Overall, I think this author did a good job and I’m interested in reading more by her. She has a great writing style and I’m curious to see something original from her.

Loved this book. I loved how it followed the Disney tale but also shared past information that created a darker story. I am obsessed with this book and look forward to reading more from the Twisted Tales collection.
