Back in St. Denis with Chief of Police Bruno and as always it was a delight. The gastronomic delights of the French countryside and the fine wine were flowing. I believe, as one character classes them, I have become "one of Bruno's women". No sexual context there (lol), it is just that Bruno is that type of man who has many women as good friends.
A lot going on in this story: the death of an old Resistance man, the inclusion of a train robbery from the same era. Robberies of antiques and the history of Frances nuclear weapons program. I like Walker's research into the history of this era and the are of PĂ©rigord and find I learn something new each time. This book receives the 4th star as until the very end I was stymied as to "who-did-it"

A very interesting and enjoyable read, lots going on between homophobic attacks, historic robbery, murder, kidnap, politics, injured animals, spies and sad news.
I would say this one is my favourite of the series so far. A much more nuanced Bruno with some frailties and weakness. This one is not short of things going and a lot less food and eating. Lots of good action and characters. I will miss St Denis when I finish this series. I'm going to enjoy reading all these books again one day.

Short Review: Another good mystery set in the french countryside, but with a historical twist. There are a couple of real historical themes mixed into the storyline. It is always nice to get some history lessons in your fiction. And there seems to be some movement in Bruno's stalled romantic pursuits (or at least some doors closing.) I have really enjoyed this series and I will be eagerly awaiting the next book that doesn't come out for another six months.

Full of ups and downs, and twists and turns. Love the audio version.
