A somber look at war's aftermath, focusing more on its devastating consequences than the conflict itself. This approach offers a refreshing perspective, albeit somewhat heavy."

Just when you start to feel any sympathy for these women they immediately go out of their way to remind you that they're awful; it's not slavery they object to, just that they themselves should be slaves. Their constant refrain: "it's terrible that this is happening to us."

Such an indictment of war amid a thinly veiled celebration of its heroes. The aftermath of war as seen by the women who survive it only to face enslavement by their enemies, the victors. Heartbreaking, poignant, raw, a testament to the natural love and nurture of women, this Greek play is hard to read. I especially appreciated Edith Hamilton’s introduction and translation.
