This was a fun choose your own adventure book. The joke pages and the couple puzzles you had to figure out to get to the right page were my favorite.
Definitely a fun read 😊

2025 Hugo Award finalist - Best Graphic Story or Comic
This choose-your-own-adventure style graphic novel captures the flavor of the TV series very well. It's funny and exciting with quintessential Star Trek situations and callbacks to a number of classic Star Trek antagonists. Beckett Mariner goes through a spiral of alternate realities, usually ending up with her death or the destruction of her ship. I read it as intended for the first couple or so times, but because of the way the ebook is designed it's difficult to jump back and forth, so I broke the rules and finished it just reading straight through. Surprisingly, this probably made about as much sense as the intended way. It becomes increasingly clear that each of the branches leads to the same basic problem: someone is trying to get classified Starfleet information out of Mariner. It all becomes clear what's going on in the end, but that's not really the point. This is intended mostly as an exercise in humor and creative plot structure. Artist Chris Fenoglio does a very good job of emulating the style of the animated series. There are a few pages of character model sheets as an appendix.
I don't think this is quite up to the standards I'd give a Hugo Award to, but it is very entertaining and does actually explore some interesting science fictional ideas.
