Tough to get through. The story itself was classic Western fare but for my money there was far too much time spent on describing the landscape ad nauseam. With the exception of Lassiter, there was little in the way of character development. Jane Withersteen was awful. Am I mad I wasted time reading it? Not really. Am I glad it is over? Yep.

I'm waffling between 3 and 3.5 stars. There were parts I loved, parts that I thought were cheesy, and parts that I really didn't care for. Not a bad read, but not my favorite Grey novel.

Had heard about the book and the author and felt I should give it a try.
Can't say I'm a better person for reading this.
Very anti- LDS, possibly based in fact, possibly not.
Very dim views of women and not a lot of character development

a favorite of my mothers and I read it when I was in the 8th grade; interesting to go back and reread with "adult" eyes and fun to read as we were traveling across the country of the purple sage.
