Dear god this book was bad. I love Koontz, but not everything is a masterpiece and this was no masterpiece.
An implausible story that moved too fast to gain any traction, characters that barely mattered, and shoddy story-telling abounded. If you see this on a shelf, leave it there, or better yet throw it out so it doesn't assault anyone else's eyeballs.

The book starts off well, with nice characterisation, believable dialogue and a menacing conspiracy that does what any good (fictional) conspiracy should do - make the reader feel like no-one is safe.
There are thrills and chills and twists and turns a-plenty, and during all that time I was reading it, I was enjoying myself immensely...
...until the final act ruined everything.
Quite worryingly quickly, the story takes an abrupt and unbelievable turn from conspiracy thriller into sci-fi (and even though the sci-fi undercurrent was - admittedly - introduced somewhat early on, when it fully rears its out-of-place head it feels entirely abrupt, entirely ridiculous, and a massive cheat). And after that, when the conspiracy's reasons for being are unravelled, the level of ludicrousness becomes too much to swallow.
"Relentless" is the most initially promising, but ultimately massively disappointing novel I've yet read in my time.
(If only 2/3 of a good book were enough...)

This started off as such a good book for me but the ending let me down a lot. I still have unanswered questions and Waxx's motives were never explained.

The category this book should be put is conspiracy theory fiction. I gave this book 3 stars I couldn't get into the story I mean killing and torturing people just to keep literature the way it is, it doesn't make much sense. The major positive that stopped book falling under 3 stars was the great pacing of book.

Enjoyed the book. Kinda strange. Probably not my favorite book by Koontz, but a good book nonetheless. I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened.

Please note; my star rating on any book is completely subjective and limited to the label for each star.
1 Star I didn’t like it
2 Stars It was okay
3 Stars I liked it
4 Stars I really liked it
5 Stars It was amazing!
If I do actually have something to say about a book other than what my enjoyment factor was, I will write a review and share my thoughts. If I say I didn’t like a book but there wasn’t anything that about it that I thought needed to be shared particularly, then that’s it, I just didn’t like it.
If you’d like to start a discussion about a book or you’d like an actual review, ask any question you like and I’ll be happy to try and comply/respond.
Additional note; I do not feed the trolls. If you don’t have something constructive to say, or if you can’t say it in a respectful way, you won’t get a response from me. Ever.
