A functional history that covers the centuries of the British Army quite neatly. What I didn't like was how obviously biased it was towards the Army (at the expense of the Air Force / Navy; I understand that coming from an Army background this is somewhat inevitable, but the self-awareness of the bias might have come through better), as well as the strange glossing over of colonialism and the part the Army had to play in it. The latter parts especially come across as very 'Hurrah, Empire!' which rubs me the wrong way.
