I just read through this after seeing it in the book drop at work, and had to do a quick review. It’s such a great little book, and a fun way to show how the food we eat powers our body. I know it’s directed at young children, but as an adult reader I just really loved the idea of showing what each food actually does for you, like “beets help you breathe deep” and “kale helps your skin form scabs because of vitamin K”. As an adult, even though I know fruit and vegetables are healthy and beneficial, I still know I don’t get enough of them in my diet. But seeing some of these facts had me thinking I need to add some items to the next grocery list. :)
funny informative

Childrens nonfiction, health.  I almost wish this book was formatted in picture book size as I think it would be checked out more.  But it is a fun and informative book, that takes the reader color by color through food and what it actually does for your body.  The illustrations feature photographs of the food, with pen illustrations adding pizzazz-- faces, people, animals, etc.  For example the page in the orange section for sweet potatoes has text that reads "Sweet potatoes help you grow healthy hair and strong fingernails. Vitamin B7" with three sweet potatoes admiring their flowing hair and beautiful nails.  The back matter features alternative foods that provide the same benefits, so if one can't eat sweet potatoes, perhaps you can eat peanuts to strengthen your hair and nails.  There is also a sketch of the full body that cross-references where the foods in the book are of benefit.  Visually appealing, informative, and a great book to introduce various food groups or nutrients.
