I've never read a Josie and the Pussycats comic, never watched the show or saw the movie, but I've always been interested. When I heard Archie Comics were rebooting this series, I added it to my pull list without paying attention to the creative team involved. Finding out Marguerite Bennett's working on this made me that much more excited when I properly looked at the front cover's names.

What'd I think? There are a few mildly dirty jokes in here that were delightful, and an overall light tone and humour that made me smile - and even laugh out loud once. Right from the beginning, it already grounds itself in friendship and dynamics of support and rivalry between characters.

Anyone familiar with Bennett's work knows she's very LGBTQ+ friendly. This is no exception. Melody has a dating app on her phone and half (2/4) of her "conquests" are women! Later, she mentions wishing her "daddy" were there to see her perform, using a female pronoun. Mel may just be a little kinky, too ;D Josie spews a fountain of what seems like an innocent and unintentional, but elaborate, pick-up line when she hears Valerie sing. Toward the end of that conversation, Val makes a suggestive quip that almost sounds like she's flirting with Josie. It could also be wishful thinking, but knowing Bennett...

How's the artwork? Really nice! It has that sort of cartoony look that fits in with the Archie universe and everyone looks lovely.

I'm very much looking forward to what this team has planned for the series. They're off to a great start.

I did not expect such a quick sped up origin story to fit in one issue.

Really wonderful start. A bit crowded and frenetic storytelling-wise, but excited to read more. Full review here: http://bit.ly/2dzDKJR

Sin duda totalmente fuera de lo que conocía de la serie, pero entretenido a fin de cuentas. El inicio de la historia musical de las Pussycats: Josie, Melody y Valerie.

Amé a Melody, en serio :3
