Ho letto, infine, Van Gogh: The Life, monumentale biografia di un pittore che tutti pensano di conoscere, ma che, credo, pochi conoscono davvero. Ci ho messo quasi un anno e mezzo per finirlo, ma non perché sia un libro noioso o poco interessante: è semplicemente tanto, a volte troppo. La vita di Vincent, vista attraverso il prisma della sua relazione con il fratello Theo (senza alcun dubbio la più importante e la più conflittuale), è complessa, spesso triste, quasi sempre solitaria; e la sua opera, forse più che per qualunque altro artista, ne è uno specchio, forse distorto, ma sempre fedele. Un libro stupendo.

An extremely comprehensive work on the life of Van Gogh. One of the most lengthy (in a good way) books I've ever read and it's worth it.

I have a little obsession with Van Gogh, so this book was just what I needed to feed that obsession. It is the most thorough account of his life that I've ever read and really allows you to understand how sad this man's life was.

I'm blown away. Such a detailed and intimate narrative of an artist I deeply admire. Wonderful.

Incredibly well researched and written biography! Vincent’s story is heartbreaking.
