a wonderful, fast-paced, witty coming-of-age novel that's not afraid to explore heavier topics that come up for young teens heading into their college years (sex, drinking, mental health, etc.) the author weaves in fanfiction throughout, keeping the tone relatively light hearted while also being respectful of the overall plot and tone. teens can lose themselves trying to be someone else in college--fangirl lets them know that they can be themselves, and still have it all.
Graphic: Mental illness, Abandonment, and Alcohol
Moderate: Cursing and Toxic friendship
Minor: Animal death, Sexual content, Violence, Vomit, Fire/Fire injury, and Sexual harassment

Over hyped, but fun read. I liked the twin sisters relationship more than anything. The ending felt kind of abrupt though. I would've liked to know more about their mom and if they ever reconciled with her. The fanfiction aspect was underwhelming. It didn't give me the Harry Potter vibe that I was expecting after reading so many reviews. Over all, I'm pretty 'meh' about this book.

Brilliant and tender. Rainbow Rowell joins my YA Pantheon alongside Libba Bray, Jo Knowles, Jon Green, Amy King, Rick Yancey, and Maggie Stiefvater.

I loved this book so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so much. I felt so connected to Cath and her story. Her obsession with a Harry-Potter like fandom, her constant writing, even the anxiety that plagues her . . . I feel so connected to it. Cheering her on for the entire book was such a satisfying experience. Watching Cath fall in love, write "the" fanfiction of the year, make new friends--even reading excerpts from her fanfiction--was a journey I didn't know I wanted so badly. And Rainbow Rowell is such a fantastic writer. Her dialog, her descriptions of people, the ambience of her book completely won me over. So thank you Rainbow Rowell!

This book is probably one of my favourite contemporary books. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
And the characters are so relatable in many ways.
Cath, I want you as my best friend.
She loves fanfiction, she has a sister, she doesn't trust people that easily. Needless to say, I understand where she's coming from.
The romance in this book is absolutely cute. It's light, fun and turns you into a giggling mess.
