Although incomplete, The Mystery of Edwin Drood was well worth the read, such a shame it wasn't finished as it would have been among the top Dickens reads. I'm glad I read it to complete reading all of Dickens novels.

One of the MOST boring books I ever read.

Obviously unfinished, but the first half of the book which here exists is spectacular. So uncharacteristic of Charles Dickens, the few characters have depth, the language is poetic and efficient.

It is incomplete which makes it so much fun! I wrote a whole paper on love and obsession based around this book - Charles's darkest book and a murder mystery to boot. How could you go wrong? (and yes, I am on a first-name basis with Charles Dickens - deal)

Another beautifully articulated and created world by Dickens, telling the story of a young man - Edwin Drood - and his subsequent disappearance and murder mystery. The fact that Dickens died before he could complete the story (and therefore resolve the mystery) makes the text even more intriguing. Whilst I have my suspicions of what the conclusion may have been, the thrill is in knowing that we, the reader, will never truly know…

For an unfinished novel, very complex and intriguing. There are shades of some racism and colonial thought that are relatively unchecked by the characters and narrator, but it provides a unique mystery and plot, even without Dickens's intended conclusion, however it may have looked.
