I have no idea how to express how bad that was. If someone who has never read a fantasy story before reads this first, they will never set foot in this genre again. It's so incredibly sad how a good idea can be ruined like this.
So, don't get mad at me. Anyone who knows me knows that I rarely talk badly about books. I studied literature and have also written a book or two. I know how much work goes into something like that and I know that I am not a writer and would never presume to be.
This story here has good beginnings, lots of good ideas and is not badly written at all, but my goodness, the storytelling is just a huge mess. Events are randomly strung together and forced to make some kind of sense at the end. The magical world that is built here is a series of countless magical abilities. The main character and narrator knows everything, can do everything and still plays dumb. Portals transport him and his buddies from one universe to the next. There is no standstill, you never really get to know anything and don't really know how to imagine this fantasy world, even though you are bombarded with new information in every second sentence.
The writing style, well, I don't know.
I need simply written books from time to time. After a week like the one I've just had, something that doesn't stress me out too much is helpful to wind down. I don't have the right words to describe the style of this book. It has something of an endless shopping list or an instruction manual.
This is an excerpt from a scene in which a great battle is raging ... Just to have something like this in such a scene, where you actually want to know who is fighting with whom and how the fights are going ...

Thoughts from a character were in contradiction from one paragraph to the next on more than one occasion. It’s also eye rolling when the physical reaction to someone sexy is like you get from a young teenager. Pulse racing? Sure. That’s not what was here.

This was a DNF at 15% for me. Character descriptions were were not believable (no one looms over you if they are only 2 inches taller) and the story could not hold my attention for more than 5 minutes.

There's a lot crammed into this and it's just kinda thrown at you. I felt confused for the first three quarters and by the time I kind of understood what was happening I was sad that things werent slowed down so I actually enjoy the world and the story

The Good:
- The premise of the book
- There was a (graphic) sex scene which means I can use that book in my 2024 A to Z Reading Challenge with Gay Spice

The Bad:
- Everything else/The entire book
- Two words : Confusion and Convolution!
