This is a tricky one to rate. It’s not an enjoyable read, but it’s a book that made me think. The story is a little bizarre. It’s a little slow in parts, but I think the author has an interesting message to get across to the reader. As the title suggests, it is about people having a sense of entitlement, but it is also about lacking a sense of belonging, racism, and appearing to be altruistic when you aren’t. It was interesting. I like the writing style too.

4.5 rounded up. I don’t think I’ve ever cringed harder over a character’s actions! I loved the realistic friendship conflicts and passive-aggression over money and wealth, as well the examination of generations, ambition, and values in Brooke’s choices and her relationship with her family. Alam continues to be one of my favorite authors.
