The usual flimsy and ineptly written gimcrack that I've come to expect from this author.

The 3 books in the Beyond Spiderwick series are not going to be recommended here. Poorly written and with less imagination than the original books. The children have bad attitudes and bad language. The young girl in the story is constantly lying to her parents, and the other children are impressed by how well she does it. The parents fight and the impression is given that because they aren't getting along, then they should get a divorce. This very weighty issue is handled irresponsibly by the authors. Overall, I think the authors should have stopped with the first set of books.

The boys and I really enjoy the Spiderwick Chronicles. I'd say I like the first set of books better than this one, but it was still relatively fun. I did enjoy how the authors poked fun at themselves at one point in the novel. I was also a bit surprised when Jared said a curse word, but as I was reading it out loud to the boys I just edited. Still, they were shocked to hear Jared say "Lard Butt", lol!

We'll be starting the next book later this week. We love Spiderwick!

a new story in the spiderwick series begins. the authors do a great job of staying in the world they’d already established in the first series, but switch things up with totally unrelated main characters. the twins from the first series do make an appearance in this book, but that’s also done in a unique way. it looks like there’s more to come in this new story. good news for spiderwick fans!

I LOVE the Spiderwick books and was so happy to see that they are creating a new series. It is a very fast read, the illustrations as always are amazing and I was hoping for more. The story was engaging and I thought both children were believable. I loved how the author's inserted themselves into the story. I can't wait till the next 2 books come out so I can find out how they deal with this giant and the nixie.
