This was an amusing recap of several episodes of The Next Generation. However, this book seemed written at a more elementary level and not written at a level that Picard would write at.
This was an enjoyable yet mindless way to spend a few hours reading, but it was written at an 8th grade reading level.

Kind of fun, but the last forty pages were just snippets of TNG episodes, which was pretty lame.

Picard deserves better.
I don’t read many autobiographies; in fact, I tend to avoid first person altogether. As an autobiography of some random Starfleet person, this is fine. The writing is fine but also tends towards a very straightforward chronicle of events instead of a memoir-like little insight into them.
If you haven’t seen much TNG, then this might be acceptable. Indeed the amount of references and name dropping with characters from TOS and ENT leads me to believe that’s where the author’s spent their time.
But if you picked this up as a fan of TNG eager to get the gaps in Picard’s life filled in and insight into his life... you’ll get one of those things as well as several head slaps in disbelief at what you’re reading.
Even all this could be forgiven except for the biggest flaw: there is nothing of Picard’s voice in this book. Not once did I read anything that came through like he was saying it. From his actions to vocabulary to pace to even pop culture references (yeahhhh), none of it is accurate. Even making this a biography (so clearly written by someone else) would have done some justice.

I enjoyed this book overall. I do agree with some of the criticisms that now the Picard TV show exists it makes some of the book outdated but this is only the final parts of the book and It’s really not that far off fitting into canon. I recommend this book.

I greatly enjoyed reading this mock non-fiction book. I'm a big time nerd and absolutely love Star Trek. When I saw this book, I knew I wanted to read it, TNG is my favorite ST series and I adore Picard. I loved learning about his childhood and time on the Stargazer. I wish they had spent more time on the Enterprise or talked about something that wasn't in the series. If you hadn't watched the entire series, it is likely some of the references in the last third of the book would not make sense.
Overall, I really had fun with this book.

Mostly enjoyable, although not perfect. The author does a great job up through Picard's command of the Stargazer, but seems to have run out of pages to cover the rest of Picard's life in the same level of detail/quality. It feels like a term paper where the last pages were written on no sleep and turned in 3 minutes before the cutoff.
Also, the epilogue is very unsatisfactory, with a reference to a prejudice against Klingons that is entirely against the ethos of someone who was Worf's Captain for so many years and the arbitrator of Gowron's succession.
