Loved it!

I really loved this story! I loved the twists the story took and trying to figure out how all of the pieces fit together. I loved their meeting and how she fit into his family.

✨ I received this book as an ARC for my honest review✨

Rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This book had me hooked from the moment I started reading! It’s my first by Victoria Wilder, and wow, she’s totally got me hooked. This is the start of the Bourbon Boys series, and it has everything I love—small-town vibes, suspense, hot chemistry, and a whole lot of bourbon.

The story follows Grant Foxx, a grumpy ex-cop turned bourbon maker, and Laney Young, who’s in witness protection after some serious trouble back home. She ends up staying with the Foxx family in Fiasco, Kentucky, and it’s clear from the start that their lives are about to get a lot more complicated.

Grant is instantly suspicious of Laney, but he can’t deny the pull between them. Laney’s got a fierce, no-nonsense attitude that I loved, and she doesn’t take crap from anyone—especially not him.

The banter? Chef’s kiss. It's playful and flirty, but then you get these deep heartfelt moments that made me fall for both of them.

The slow burn between them is everything, and when bourbon gets involved? It’s downright explosive.

Let me start out by saying this isn’t a cowboy romance. She calls him cowboy because he has a horse.

I really enjoyed this!! This takes place in Kentucky on Foxx land. Laney has many secrets and she must keep it that way to remain safe. She finds herself on a bourbon distillery owned by the Foxx family. There’s one guy in particular, Grant, who is weary and wondering about what she’s hiding. Also, there’s a rumor known around town that the Foxx men are cursed.

This had a mysterious & suspenseful element that had me pulled in. The chemistry between grant and Laney is hotttt. The bourbon play had me reeling. I love how things progressed with them, and how they got to know each other better. Oh and his dog was the star of the show!!

This did slow down a little in the middle of the book, but overall I loved this.

I've definitely managed to piss off Grant Foxx just by existing in his small town. And, I think I like it.

*4.75 stars*

Suuuch a good time!
And these Foxx brothers, whew...

Genre: Small town romance
Tropes: Workplace romance, age gap, strangers to lovers, forced proximity (neighbors), found family, WITSEC/secret identity, FMC on the run, suspense, slow burn (delicious tension).
Trigger warnings: Yes.

"I. Am. Lucky. Ask me why I'm lucky, cowboy?"
"Why are you lucky, baby?"
"Because you love me. Because I get to love you."

ARC review:
This was such a vibe! A small town romance, with a darker edge, sassy strong women, possessive sexy men, bourbon, the sweetest puppy, top-tier banter and the best side characters!

"Drink up cowboy."
"Yes ma'am."

I loved the writing and the pacing of the story, which unfolded the story so vividly, it was like I was there. The added suspense had my heart pounding quite a bit. It only added to the story, without taking away from the romance. I really liked the balance between emotional stuff, the developing romance, serious tension, suspense-filled twists and some much needed lighthearted banter.

"Life's too unpredictable to worry how tidy it should be. Get messy."

Laney Young is in an off the record WITSEC program, which added a bit of suspense and quite a few secrets to her backstory, that I was anxious to see the whole scope of. Her situation was bad, and she had some serious trauma from it, but she was still this sunshiny, badass, sassy woman that fit in so well with the Foxx family. I just want to be her friend. Also, I loved seeing her bratty side come out around Grant - she was just what he needed!

Grant Foxx is the youngest Foxx brother. He is a retired cop after a tragedy, and now works and lives at Foxx distillery. I love me a broken, grumpy man, and he was definitely that. He was also rugged and sooo yummy, and the dirty talk he served was on point!

"I said I want you. Now do what you're told, cowboy. Make me messy"
"Yes, ma'am."

I loved the dynamic between Laney and Grant. It was a very refreshing take on grumpy/sunshine, and Grant embraced Laney (reluctantly) even though he knew she had secrets, and I enjoyed seeing him letting his walls down, having a bit of fun again and having his protective side come out in full force.

The nicknames was top-notch. It fit their characters so well, and I had not guessed that 'honey' and 'cowboy' could hit so hard, but boy did it! Their banter, bickering, teasing was everything, and it was just such a good time! Also, their chemistry, so palpable and all-consuming, whewww…

"That's it, I want to hear your moans. I don't care if this whole fucking bar hears. Don't be quiet. Not for me."

It was a slow burn, but the tension between Grant and Laney was tensioning so hard and incredibly delicious. When the spice hit, it SERVED - (bourbon play?!). Seriously, these Foxx brothers can just do it all, and I'm very excited for the next Foxx brother's story.

Victoria Wilder has entered the chat and will absolutely NOT be leaving. This is my first book by her and will DEFINITELY not be my last.

This story follows Grant Foxx, an ex cop who retired early from the force to head home and make bourbon with the rest of his family after an awful incident, and Laney Young. Laney is placed in WITSEC after running into danger in a storage facility. After being placed on his families farm, Grant can’t help but be suspicious of who Laney is and how she got here. He also can’t deny that she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Their secrets and lies catch up to them but they still fall into each other.

The banter in this story was EXQUISITE. Top tier. Everything. Their dynamic was so fun and flirty, but then had these really deep and profound moments that felt like a great balance. Their relationship just felt very natural from the moment he saw her in her oversized tshirt.

The suspense aspect of this book was also incredible. I loved the plot and story line that Victoria built into this book.

I ate this book up. Could not put it down. Refused to do anything except read about Grant and Laney. When I tell you I fell in love with not just the MMC but the FMC as well, I mean it. She had such bad B energy and I loved her for it.

2.5 stars rounded up, sorrry. Super cringe solidly through the book. I felt the first 1/3 of the book had potential but then it just felt torturous getting through it all. The cover is stunning but that was about it for me.

Wow
I was not expecting this. I enjoy a great suspense. Pair it with romance, yes please.
I love this book. Thank god it’s the beginning of a series because I can’t get enough of the Foxx brothers. Mysterious, family oriented and sexy as hell.
Laney and Grant have the most amazing chemistry. Their sexual tension is awesome. It is the slowest burn.
Their banter is the best. They can equally dish out the dirty talk, and it’s ridiculously hot.
I love a strong confident woman and Laney is that in spades. She doesn’t need a man to save her.
She can do it on her own.
Grant is content to live his life on his alone, but when Laney shows up in town she changes everything. She turns his world upside down. I love when a woman throws a man off balance.

100% recommend.

FYI - I can probably make bourbon now.
