This book basically had everything I love:

🥃Forced proximity
🐎Small town
🥃Suspense
🐎Plot twists
🥃Steam

I absolutely loved Grant and Laney as a couple. Neither is a pushover and their chemistry was off the charts. But I also loved Laney individually too. I'm a sucker for a strong female character and I loved how she stood up for herself.

The suspense part of this book was very well done. I did figure out a couple parts but overall was kept on the edge of my seat. The protective retired K9 dog was a bonus.

I'm excited to read the next book in the series.

This book offers up a solid romantic suspense story. I liked Laney and Grant. I love how Grant was pissed at himself for being interested in her from the jump. I wish that the plot points surrounding Laney’s backstory were brought up sooner, even if just to the reader. It made the last 15% of the book or so feel a little rushed. Aside from that I liked that this book offered up a story of both characters saving themselves, moving on from their traumas, and building a new life with the one they love. This book also delivers up some spicy af scenes you might be feeling parched after. Honorable mention to the scenes with the brothers and Griz, they are a sweet family. I recommend this for fans of romantic suspense or an element of mystery.

Bourbon and Lies is filled with lust, mystery and banter. Friendly, mysterious characters with intriguing back stories, crime and danger, and everything in between, Bourbon and Lies had me gripped.

There are a lot of plots and characters that I would have liked to delve into more, for example, how Waz knew of Laney’s background and Hadley’s relationship with her family. Hopefully, more of that will come out in the next books in the series. Ace is such an enigma so fingers crossed we find out more about him.

There were some mistakes that made some scenes slightly confusing, switching from Laney to Grant as narrator for a sentence or two, for example. Editorial mistakes happen but there were several so definitely became noticeable.

While I liked the characters and the storyline, there were a TON of issues with the writing style that made this really hard to get into. There were so many times I had to go back and read a couple of pages to make sure I understood what was happening, and even then, I found it wasn't clear. The tense also kept switching between past and present which is one of my biggest pet peeves in fiction.

That being said, I liked how everything tied together at the end, the chemistry between the leads was great, the Foxx family was a lot of fun, and I learned some neat things about bourbon!
