Far more than just a book about drones, this book looks at the how drones, surveillance and other technologies can be leveraged to benefit social, environmental, and political movements, with real-world examples how technologies have been deployed. Mr. Choi-Fitzpatrick had field experience that he shares, as well as researched accounts of how others have utilized everything from kites and balloons to satellites. These methods of increasing visibility have allowed movements to address poaching and animal abuse; documented use of slave labor; tracked the spread of pollution, illegal logging, and migratory behavior; and provided proof of attacks by governmental or paramilitary actors against non-violent civilian protestors. The book approaches it’s subject matter with an academic rigor, and suggests multi-disciplinary avenues for further research.
