I can't say enough about how much I love this book series. I love it because I can read it with my children and all of us have a great time reading it together. This is not normally my type of book and truth be told I would not read it if not for the enjoyment my children get out of it, but for younger children it is wonderful. I read it with my 8, 10, and 12 year old. They all loved it. They were all fascinated with the story and never wanted to stop reading. I love that it does not have any political agenda attached to it. It is just a good story that keeps you interested. Highly recommend.

This could have been a great story, but it turned out just to be "Oh no! We're in trouble now we need to go here. Oh no! Trouble again, but if we go here we'll be okay." I never felt like any of the characters were in danger. I didn't care when any character died because too many of them got mixed up in my head. I couldn't remember if I liked them or not. The only intriguing part to me was Seth's development. Good series that could have been great.

As good as the first book was in this five book series. Well paced, with lots of action. Sorry to see the series end but was wrapped up in a very satisfying way.

I have been on a Fablehaven reading binge in order to have four of the five books (I skipped the second) read in time for a Teen book group at the library next week (Tuesday @ Kaysville for anyone in the county). The pacing was very fast in this book, a lot of good fights - if you like that sort of thing- Almost like Indiana Jones shows up to save Fablehaven. At times I felt like a couple of situations were pulled out of a hat! (Zombies!!!! Really!!!!They must have appread first in book two, because I don't remember them.) But Mull has created quite a feat with this series - many kids love it - and I appreciate his characters growing and facing difficult situations with tough consequences. All the best to Mull.

Final installment in the 5 part Fablehaven series. All in all, a great addition to the YA fantasy/adventure market. It follows the same sort of trajectory of following young protagonists as they apprentice and learn a magic/supernatural trade, being put in peril and tested in real world scenarios, and ultimately being responsible for saving the world. In Fablehaven, this is modified somewhat in that it is a sister/brother team, and as the books progress, both Kendra and Seth share equal time in the books. In addition, they always work as part of larger teams, which are made up of adults (adult humans, dragons, unicorns, satyrs, etc.). I like this richer adult landscape, and the fact that the parents exist, and grandparents exist. I did grow a little tired of Mull repeatedly having his characters offer for Kendra to stay back, out of the fighting. It seemed like he portrayed that dynamic a lot more, while Seth, the younger brother, was always getting in trouble for his derring-do attitude. But, in the end, Kendra always ends up in the thick of the fighting, and is always a pivotal member of the team, and for that, I'm glad that this is a book that should appeal to both boys and girls (both my nephew and niece have loved them).
