This one was a hard one for us to get into. Eleanor wanted to hear about the aliens but of course it focuses more on the military aspects. We both agree this is not the best one in the series because there were some really complex and difficult topics the book was trying to explain and I’m just not sure it works at the age level it’s intended for. Granted, Eleanor is only 6 1/2, but this is the first one of these books that she has just not been interested in at all and she wanted to read it just to get it done.
Eleanor says: This book wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. It wasn’t as interesting. And I wanted to hear about the aliens. The aliens would’ve been more interesting to hear about. I didn’t understand a lot of the book. It was kind of boring. But I do have an area 51 map. It came with the book. The map is cool. It also had pictures on it. Area 51 is in Nevada.

Before these "Where Is" books came out, this series began with Who Is/Was. I used these in my 4th grade classroom for a biography study, finding them to be much more interesting and readable than most other available biographies for middle schoolers. I no longer teach 4th graders, but was completely caught up in Where Is Area 51? It seems really well researched, and eye-opening ... I learned a lot! I read this as an adult for enjoyment because I do NOT LIKE nonfiction, can't get through it, and this fascinating book kept my attention for all 108 pages! Can't wait to read the next one.

Great high interest topic! Where is Area 51 is an engaging read. The author does a fine job in taking on this huge mysterious subject and attempting to explain and she’d light on it. Great time lines and historical content. You will come away having learned something.

My students love this series and the Who was/is books. I just read this book outloud to my son. It briefly explains why people thing Area 51 is connected to UFOs and space aliens. It spends more time talking about secret projects believed to be carried out there.
