Dialog was cringe-worthy.

Was going great until the ending which seemed sudden and rushed after such a long and thorough build. Still enjoyable escapism.

Super meh. I like Nora Roberts but this whole book fell flat for me. Super predicable, very little suspense.

Thought the book was a little too long, seemed to drag a bit in the middle and then had an odd ending

I was interested in the (definitely predictable) story and the setting but the dialogue was so, SO cheesy and cringy. I think I rolled my eyes every time Dillon referred to his mom and grandmother as “my ladies”

This was fine. I loved the audio book narrator, or else I probably would have DNFed it by default of getting bored. Every last bit was predictable and the characters were so perfect, but I still generally enjoyed listening to this one.

This book got me out of a reading slump! Do you ever have those? Times when, no matter what you pick up, you just can't seem to find anything interesting? I should have known that it would be Nora Roberts to the rescue for me.

During a game of hide-and-seek with her cousins at the Sullivan family home, nine-year-old Cate is kidnapped. The terrifying incident creates ripples for her and the entire Sullivan family that are far-reaching. But Cate refuses to be a victim for long. She develops an admirable strength of character as she grows up, one that allows her to find closure and healing and true friendships and relationships. The plot is a disturbing one, of course, anytime an author tackles child abduction, it's disturbing. And there are definitely some creepy scenes and passages. But what I take away from the book is vivid scene-setting, great characters, and a story that truly captured my attention.

Caitlyn Sullivan, Hollywood star at ten, disappeared during a game of hide and-seek. Cate managed to escape, but was never the same again. Growing up, Cate traveled, even living in Ireland for years. But now, she is back in Los Angeles, and hopes to begin acting again. However, Cate will soon learn that one can never escape their past.

When Cate gets back home, she begins to wonder about the person who found her when she escaped all those years ago. His name is Dillon Cooper and although he was only a teen at the time, she never forgot him. Cate has a large emotionally supportive family. While drawing closer to them again, she also begins to draw closer to Dillon.

I felt from the very beginning that it wasn’t true suspense, so knowing who was behind Cate’s kidnapping didn’t bother me. I enjoyed the back-and-forth, the family drama and the slow romance that developed. I am a much happier fan of Roberts In Death books that she writes under her J. D. Robb pseudonym, but I still found this book to be an entertaining read.

Many thanks to St. Martins and to Edelweiss for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
