This book was absolutely amazing. The characters were so well fleshed out and I really appreciated how flawed even the main characters were. I also enjoyed the switching between perspectives, as it helped provide new perspectives on the plot. The worldbuilding was amazing, and I almost couldn’t stop reading.

Strong and complex plot with brilliant world building… but I’m so glad that the Villeneuve film adaptation has fixed the the representation of the female characters, away from sexualised / infantilised / misogynistic tropes, creating depth and agency to the individual female plot lines.

The book was pretty good overall. I love the world and story of Dune, but the book is hard to get through at times. The writing style makes it feel pretty dense. I love the characters, and I kinda love all of the POVs and inner thoughts. I like the themes and the philosophy. Also the book is pretty weird, which I kinda love for it.

The attention to detail in creating Arrakis and the Fremen is staggering.

This story has inspired countless tales after it, but one young man struggling with his place in the universe and the consequences of seeking revenge proves timeless.

This book is elevated above similar stories because Paul can see the horror of a future holy war in his name looming over all of his actions up until the very end.

What can I say about this book other than it's fantastic. It is dense, but the world building is supreme. An excellent mix of fantasy and science Fiction, similar in many ways to the type of story we see in Star Wars. Fans of both science fiction and fantasy will find lots to love here, if you can get through the slow pacing and dense detailed world building. (If you like Tolkien and can handle all the details therein, you'll be fine here).
