I really loved the concept of this book and I do appreciate it for making me think a lot on the subject/act of walking. I will say there were things/sentiments I liked and things/sentiments I dislike/disagreed with.

i was recommended this book by a beautiful turtlenecked man in french canada. he gave me a glass of white wine and told me (in english) that the book would change me in some way. after reading, i thought about how the man told me and my partner where we should go and how we went and we looked around and sat and nibbled then went on to the next place and looked and sat and nibbled. and we had a great time and people asked us what we did there and we said we walked and sat and nibbled. and that confuses people but i've compared to other moments in my life in which i've merely sat and nibbled sans walk, to moments in which i merely walked sans nibble sans sat, and the clear winner is always the action with the walking. if you've ever been driven to the peak of a mountain you know the feeling comes and goes like the wind but if you've ever walked for hours to the peak of a mountain you know that you could sit there for hours and cry a little bit if you wanted. have you ever walked to see a movie that permanently altered your perspective? walked drunk with a friend across the city? walked a mile to see a lover in the middle of the night? can you imagine how replacing [walk] with [take an uber] (???) in all of those situations makes them dumb and stupid?
i think these days i wonder what life is supposed to be as i visit my screen to collect my paycheck and then visit my next screen to regulate my emotions and then visit my next screen to make appointments with my friends and family so that i can chase the nostalgia of a world i remember, but when im walking i never wonder what life is supposed to be like because i'm doing the thing, i'm living, i'm putting one foot in front of the other as my ego dissolves and i let the earth and all its many wonders and surprises express themselves to me.
and my belief in this has been strengthened by this book, where the writer does historical, spiritual, political, and philosophical analysis on how walking figures into the world, and i think what the author gets to is something like, walking IS the world, its what we do its who we are

I really liked any part where the author was telling a story (the life of a poet or writer). When the story stopped and the philosophical discussion began, I was lost. I think my brain is too small.
Fortunately, the previous reader had marked the more important bits in pencil, so in the end it was all good :D
